It was a quiet night on Scream Street - just right for taking a bath before bed. Tell that to Eefa and her niece Luella. Their main occupations were running the emporium, and when Luella isn’t at school, she’s often seen helping her aunt in the shop. But after a long hard day of choosing spells or making them happen with nonsensical rhymes, there comes a time in a witch’s life when she grabs her evening paper, puts on her bathrobe and heads upstairs to a velvety red bathroom for a relaxing bath.
On this particular night, sounds of music playing on a gramophone could be heard drifting out of the top window of Eefa’s shop - this is where her bathroom was, and right now the gramophone was playing a song called ‘Exploration’ where its lyrics were entirely gibberish. Luella was relaxing in the bath, not a care in the world, her eyes closed and her dreams filled with marshmallow clouds and rich, foamy seas. She slowly opened her groggy, heavy eyes and sat up. She could see that the bathroom was dimly lit with electric candles. She sighed, took a deep breath and then ducked down under the water.
Under the water, Luella could feel her surroundings turn to wide, borderless water. She could see seagrass and feel lots of fish swim by her. She opened her eyes and knew where she was - under a lake in the Indian jungle. She swam up to the surface for some air, and there she was - in the Indian jungle. She pricked up her ears and heard the singing from the gramophone was more audible now. She looked up into a tree and saw a yellow rabbit with a pink heart shaped nose strumming a mandolin and singing. She saw her plastic duck swim up to her, and Luella took it, connecting with it nose to nose. It was yellow compared to Luella’s gothic purple hair, but she still liked it. “Quack…” she whispered softly. “Quack!” went the duck as it swam off, and Luella giggled a little at what she saw. She looked over to the waterfall and heard a toddler laughing. That laugh sounded vaguely familiar to her. An image appeared before her of Eefa bathing her in the lake - Luella as a toddler. A small tear came into Luella’s eye, and she whimpered in near-sadness.
Just then, the leaves departed to reveal a purple bottle of bubble bath. Luella reached out to touch the bubble bath, but it seemed too high up, and the bottle tipped, causing bubble bath to foam out everywhere. Sounds of gentle yawning filled the air as Luella found herself back in Eefa’s bathroom, now feeling sleepy from the yawning bubbles. She felt like yawning too, and soon, she lay back and relaxed in the bath. By the time, the record had stopped playing, and bubbles filled the room. Only one sound - a record scratch - stopped the gramophone in an instant.
When Eefa came in, she saw Luella fast asleep amongst the bubbles. Feeling very sleepy herself, she went up to Luella and lifted her out of the bath, drying her with a fluffy pink towel. “Good job you’ve chosen my magic bedtime bubble bath, Luella,” she said softly, “Now it really is time for bed for you.” Luella opened one eye and said softly, “Thanks…Aunt…Eefa…” before yawning again. Once Luella was fully dry, a nightie was thrust over her head, and then Eefa carried her to bed. She placed her onto the bed and pulled the covers over her, kissing her goodnight. “Goodnight, my little doll.” sighed Eefa, “Sleep well.”
And as Eefa turned out the light and shut the door, Luella drifted off once again into a dreamless, soothing sleep.
THE END.
