"Hello, everyone. Eefa here. In 'Luella & The Old House', Luella sets off to pick mushrooms for my spells and return home just before it rains. Her curiosity gets the best of her, and soon she is exploring the house, with a fierce creature following her. The house is full of mysterious sights, from banana trees to a bathroom wall covered with excrement and blood. This is suitable for teens your child's age, but to make it doubly simple where you-know-who got inspiration for the story, I'm going to tell you something.
Sophie got inspiration for her story from a scene in Coraline, which Luella told me happened to be her favourite film (not Sophie, I mean Luella). Find the clip from the movie on Youtube here:
Watch the clip together, then ask your child to write down some narration for the scene in the words of Coraline. If by any chance they want to, let them begin their narrative at the point where Coraline uncovers the leaky windows:
"Mother told me there were predators out there. I'd best be careful out there, because someday, they might come and get me."
Afterwards, play the clip again with the sound muted and ask your child to narrate over the footage. Get a clip of the footage online and place it in a movie maker, then record your child narrating. Whatever you choose to do, I think you will make me proud. This is also for schools, for group activities where kids write narration to the clip and you will play the clip on mute, with each child reading out their own narration.
I think that in Coraline, the Other Mother calls Coraline 'her little doll'. When Luella was a toddler, I liked to call her 'My little doll' or 'My little angel' and I bet you loved calling your teen that! I must be off, I heard Luella stating that she doesn't want me calling her that in front of her friends. Goodbye!"
