Dear Luke, Resus and Cleo....
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see..."
"It's a surprise."
Those are the voices of Coraline and her other parents speaking in my head as they go towards the other bedroom. In this other bedroom, it's wonderful in there. I wonder if it smells of lavender? It's got a warm fire, a planet mobile, flying golden dragonfly fairies, a wisecracking alien soft toy, a disabled toy tortoise and photos that talk to you. If Luella were to star in this film instead of Coraline herself, it would be twice as nourishing to see the trainee witch make some discoveries of her own. In the meantime, you should watch Coraline's premiere on BBC Three and ignore other Laika films that have aired on CBBC to outsmart your stop motion looks, such as Kubo & The Two Strings and The Boxtrolls. I think Coraline is becoming my new favourite Laika film of all time, don't you? It's also Luella's favourite as far as I've heard.
I also made up a character called Red Rose, a white furred princess rabbit with a red dress and a golden crown. The name randomly came into my head, and here's one story I thought up starring her:
Red Rose is playing in the castle garden when she comes across a wishing well. She wishes for it to rain pancakes, but nothing happens...until the sun shines onto her magical hand mirror, and she is transported into the wishing well, where she eats a wishing cake that turns her into a tiny fairy princess who is friends with the tiny animals and minibeasts living among the flowers, which she helps grow. She also helps a lost Diplodocus toy hidden among the leaves get back to his owner. And yes, toys do come to life in this beautiful world.
Do you like my Red Rose character? I bet you do! If you do, I would firmly congratulate you for helping me make my stories into beautiful tales starring dogs, animals and monsters. It's evening, so I suppose everyone's tucked up in bed now. Goodnight, see you tomorrow!
Love,
Sophie
