“Twilight! Twiiiiilight!” I called. “Are you coming out to play?” Luke, Resus, Cleo, Bluey, Bingo and I stood outside Twilight’s castle waiting for a response from Twilight. It was the sort of day when we could go out to play with our pony friends like little girls play with pony dolls - hide and seek. Or tag. Or football! “I wonder why Twilight isn’t coming out?” asked Cleo. “Perhaps she’s down with a cold or something.” said Resus. “Or maybe she’s feeling sad.” said Bingo. “She is!” called the voice of her dragon assistant Spike as a loud sneeze went up from inside Twilight’s bedroom. The sound of Spike’s footsteps pattering downstairs rattled in our ears for a couple of minutes, then we saw him burst out the door. “She is what?” we asked in unison. “Twilight’s not feeling depressed, she’s just down with a cold. Common for young unicorns like her. It seems like she won’t be teaching at the School Of Friendship today. Worst of all, I think it looks like she won’t be able to play with you guys today.” We all groaned in disappointment. It was a shame when no one, not even a single pony, could come out to play with us. Another loud sneeze blasted from the window. “Gazoontight,” called Spike. “Thanks,” sniffed Twilight from upstairs.
“What a shame,” I said as we walked down the winding country lane. “Twilight can’t play with us today. Maybe we could check on Applejack to see if she wants to play with us.” As soon as we approached Sweet Apple Acres we knocked on the door of Applejack’s cottage. Granny Smith emerged and said, “I’m sorry, you can’t play with Applejack today. She and her sister Apple Bloom have caught darn nasty colds.” I facepalmed. “Her too?!” cried Resus. “But what about Babs Seed?” “She’s away in Manehattan, so we all have to let Applejack and her sister get some rest and quiet for the moment.” We tried asking every one of Twilight’s friends to play, but even Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash were all down with the cold, and even Sweetie Belle had the cold too.
“I don’t understand it.” I said as we walked down the street to Eefa’s Emporium, “All of our pony friends have come down with colds! And Twilight must’ve had a swollen horn by now. A horn that’s red, inflamed and painful.” “Of course,” said Luke sarcastically, “That’s why we want to visit Eefa, because she might find a cure for the ponies’ colds.” “Why didn’t you say so?” I said, “Eefa knows a lot of spells. So does Luella, and she’s a good friend of mine.”
